With the cost of a transplant often exceeding $500,000, many transplant families are unable to shoulder the financial burden of such a procedure.  The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) is a national charity dedicated to organizing and guiding communities in raising funds for transplant-related expenses.  In Sunnyside, volunteers are raising funds for COTA in honor of transplant patients like local twin sisters, Laynee and Kammie Schneider.

Laynee and Kammie are the daughters of David & Emily Golladay and Ron & Lori Schneider.  Born on May 3, 1999, Laynee and Kammie were diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease.  The doctors at Seattle Children’s Hospital performed Laynee’s life-saving kidney transplant on April 22, 2009, but Kammie is still waiting for her transplant.  An estimated $100,000 is being raised by Sunnyside, Grandview and Prosser volunteers.
